xDSL - HDSL-2

Gentle Readers,

Freebies at the bottom!

In a very recent development the vendors involved in HDSL-2 have reached a written agreement on the implementation of this technology. The unusual thing here is that there is no standard; the T1E1.4 committee will probably not finish the specification until next year.

These vendors are the Only providers of the chipsets to build the modems for HDSL-2, and they realize that they must move with all due haste in order to stand a chance of market penetration. The HDSL system comprises the implementation of T1 and E1 on two copper pairs. About six months ago I told you about HDSL-2, which only uses a single pair. Now ADC Telecommunications, Adtran, Level One, PairGain and Seimens all agree to use the same core technologies.

Amazing how competition can "kickstart" mutual agreement.

ObjectSpace has put free libraries on its site for Java - the JGL, and C++ - Standards <Toolkit> which are available for download for personal AND Commercial use. Forgot this on my previous xDSL post!

Peace,
Clarke
